How to get to La Fortuna and to Hotel Boutique Las Colinas?
La Fortuna is located in a privileged place in the hillside of the Arenal Volcano; there are 4 Road routes and one half aquatic and half road route.
These ways are generally in good conditions and can be crossed with any kind of vehicle.
From San José, Alajuela and Juan Santamaria International Airport, you can use the next 2 routes:
Route by Naranjo (Traditional): It is the most transited route and with more number of Towns during the trip.
You must take the Panamerican highway passing the Juan Santamaría Internacional Airport following the route with destiny to the pacific coast, looking for the indication to Naranjo, where you have to take the Right. After crossing Naranjo City, you must follow the road and pass also the cities ofZarcero, Ciudad Quesada, and then Florencia.
In Florencia you will get an intersection where you have to take the left. Passing the towns of Santa Clara, Los Ángeles and El Tanque until find to La Fortuna.
When you get to downtown La Fortuna, there is only 2 more blocks to get to the Hotel. So when you see the semaphore in front of the school, just drive 2 blocks passing the Gas Station and take Left for half a block, just the corner before the park and there you will see Hotel Boutique Las Colinas.
Route by San Ramón (Cloud Forest): This route is the fastest and with less transit; it has a lot of turns because you will drive across the Cloud Forest. It is also a very lonely way, so is not recommended to drive it at night.
You must take the Panamerican highway passing the Juan Santamaría International Airport following the route with destiny to the pacific coast, looking for the indication of San Ramon, where you have to take the Right for1 Km. After crossing San Ramón follow the road and pass also the town of Bajo Rodríguez, this trip takes about one hour and a half. Then you have to continue and also pass the towns of La Tigra, Chachagua and the last 12 Km. until get to La Fortuna.
When you arrive to La Fortuna, you will pass a Soccer build and a Bulls build, there is Rio Burio Bridge, where you have to take the Right for 2 blocks passing the Bus Station, then take to the Left for half a block and you will find Hotel Boutique Las Colinas.
This is the route to go surrounding the Arenal Lake: It is the best route if you are coming from the North Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, Daniel Oduber International Airport and from Monteverde (Starting from Tilaran).
Driving by the Panamerican highway from Liberia, on the Left hand side you will find the entrance to Cañas City. You have to cross Cañas and drive to Tilaran, then to Nuevo Arenal where you will be able to see the Arenal Lake.
In Nuevo Arenal you must take Left, surrounding the Arenal Lake until get to La Fortuna.
When you get to downtown La Fortuna, the corner before the Church don’t have way to drive down, so you have to take Right for only 1 block, then take the Left for 2 blocks passing the Bus Station, then take to the Left for half a block and you will find Hotel Boutique Las Colinas.
From the Caribbean Coast:
Route from the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, Tortuguero and Sarapiqui: Taking this route you can avoid to pass to San Jose.
Drive to Guápiles and 15km later you will find and intersection of Rio Frio where you have to turn Left to go to Sarapiqui, then to La Virgen de Sarapiqui, Venecia, and then to Aguas Zarcas.
From Aguas Zarcas you must drive looking for Muelle, in Muelle there is an intersection where you have to go straight looking El Tanque, then take the Right for 7km until get to La Fortuna.
When you get to downtown La Fortuna, there is only 2 blocks to get to the Hotel, so when you see the semaphore in front of the school, just drive 2 more blocks passing the Gas Station and take Left for half a block, just the corner before the park and there you will see Hotel Boutique Las Colinas.
Maybe not all the people knows about this way to get to La Fortuna.
It is for people who don’t have a car, and it is the nicer and faster way to get there.
This kind of transportation is called Jeep –Boat- Jeep.
It started like a tour and now it became a common way of transportation.
It is a transfer starting picking you up in your Hotel in Santa Elena, Monteverde, going to Rio Chiquito town, where a Boat will wait for you to cross the Arenal Lake for about 45 minutes, at the other side there will be a minibus taking you to Hotel Boutique Las Colinas directly.
